THIRD SPACE LIFE CHARITY AND PUSHOR MITCHELL LLP PRESENT -“THIS IS WHAT HOPE LOOKS LIKE – AN EVENING WITH UBCO PRESIDENT AND MENTAL HEALTH ADVOCATE SANTA J. ONO”

Dr. Ono will share on the current mental health epidemic and his own personal journey through depression and bi-polar disorder. “Suicide is a real risk for university- age youth and we need them to know they are not alone,” says Ono.

On January 30, 2020, Pushor Mitchell LLP & Third Space Life Charity are proud to host This is What Hope Looks Like with Santa J. Ono, 15th President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of British Columbia. Doors open at 5:30 and lecture begins promptly at 6:00pm at Willowstone Academy, 4091 Lakeshore Road, Kelowna BC. Tickets are $65 available at www.thisiswhathopelookslike.eventbrite.ca. Tickets include one drink ticket, grazing appetizers and presentation by Santa Ono. This event is a fundraiser for Third Space’s UBC Okanagan, Student Care Program.

Professor Santa J. Ono is the President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of British Columbia, a global centre for research and teaching with 64,000 students, 16,500 faculty and staff, and a $2.5 billion operating budget. Prior to his appointment in 2016, he served as president of the University of Cincinnati.

Inside Higher Education named him America’s most notable university president in 2015. As a professor of medicine and biology, Dr. Ono has worked at Harvard, Johns Hopkins, University College London, and Emory universities. “Third Space has provided close to 2000 free counselling sessions to UBC Okanagan students over the past two years”, explains Executive Director, Jody Pihl. “Student demand for counselling support is vast and our team has a solid plan to build capacity through expanded services in 2020 to meet this critical need.”

Third Space has a dedicated counselling space in the student union building on campus and the team offers counselling services 6 days a week, days, evenings and on Saturdays.
100% of funds raised will go to supporting the mental health of students at UBCO. Third Space is offering donors a matching gift opportunity at this event as all funds raised will be matched, dollar for dollar, by the Stober Family Foundation.

This event would not have been possible without the generous support of Pushor Mitchell LLP, RBC, RBC Dominion Securities and UBCO Faculty of Health and Social Development.

Third Space Life Charity is a registered charity focused on filling gaps in mental health care in our community. Third Space also offers subsidized access to counselling services to hundreds of community members through its Community Care Program, located at Landmark II in Kelowna.

Mental health and hope. For everyone. https://www.thirdspacecanada.org/
