Sarah Dawn at Dakoda’s Comedy Lounge
This Saturday night, Sarah Dawn will be headlining her first show at Dakoda’s Comedy Lounge presented by Gonzo Okanagan. Join us April 20 at 8:30 p.m.
Sarah has shared with us a few words on what is was like starting stand up in Kelowna.
“I don’t remember my first stand-up set, I was terrified. It was at an open mic at Muninn’s Post, in the summer of 2018.
“What I remember is that all day before the open mic I was doing my set out loud while I worked – I was a landscaper and no one cares if you seem insane as long as you’re good at weeding. I wrote a bit about landscaping (write what you know) and some other things. I don’t remember how it went, but I felt amazing, and I went back. And I kept going back, and being terrible, and then a little better, and I started to get laughs.
“Don’t get me wrong – I bombed a lot back then. It was brutal, but I kept going because I liked my material and I knew I’d find my rhythm. I was lucky to start in Kelowna – we’ve got something really special going on in our comedy scene, and I got tons of stage time to work on my material.
“Now, six years after I did my first open mic, I’m finally headlining my own show, and I can’t wait! I want to thank Gonzo Okanagan and Kelowna Comedy for this opportunity, and I want to thank everyone who comes out to support local comedy. We couldn’t do this without you!”
