What’s Up? The Local Music Scene #1!

Today was the 1st of hopefully many radio spots that we will be so fortunate to be doing every Friday morning at 9am on the K Wake Up with Brad & Alysha show on K96.3 Kelowna’s Classic Rock.

As a fulltime musician for the past 35 years myself (yikes, that’s a long time!), I’ve come to appreciate the fact that I am able to perform and sing for people and in return, enjoy it as much as I do. There is something to be said for that exchange of energy and good vibes that live music brings to all, from the stage to the seats, there is nothing like it and I so look forward to feeling that again when we are out of this crazy mess we are in. Music is needed desperately in everyone’s lives.

The goal here from these episodes on Gonzo Okanagan & K96.3 Kelowna’s Classic Rock is to reach out and bring some awareness and light into the local Central Okanagan Music Scene by featuring their new music, events and in general, some light into the changes we’ve all had to adjust to in 2020. We all feel the strain in every aspect of these changes and are going to try to do our best to fill our cups up with some fantastic local music while many so of us hang on through this bumpy ride we are on. 😉

Making an effort to change our own thoughts and habits, can strike a chord mentally and change us along with our communities lives. Be safe and…let’s ROCK N ROLL!

Want to submit your upcoming events or music? We would love to hear it! Please send to brad@gonzookanagan.com.

LOCAL MUSIC FEATURE!

The Carbons
Fan Link – https://fanlink.to/TheCarbons

Conroy Ross, Tomy Thisdale & Paul Minor

I love these guys! All 3 of these guys are stand up dudes who work so hard and passionately at their music. I have a huge amount of respect for all that they are doing to make things happen for themselves . It ain’t easy but you have to keep on, keepin’ on and that’s exactly what these boys are doing! Great job!

The Carbons were set to do their 1st US Tour before covid hit and unfortunately put a halt to the tour. Bad timing for a tour but what a great dedication to doing something good through a song. Timing couldn’t have been better to remind us about being our own superhero and doing our part and coming together.

Here’s another great tune by The Carbons that they’ve produced and edited themselves called All I Need! Click here and check it out!

Live Music Pubs & Clubs Around Town

Of course with all the recent life changes, live music can be a difficult one to find with all the daily new rules and safety protocols in place. We will do our best to keep you informed on where to catch our local musicians.

For this weekend we have,

Jeff Piattelli

Jeff will be performing at Oflannigans tonight, Friday Sept 25th 8:30pm start. Check him out!

While searching for venues that are safely hosting live music, I came across this awesome local musician who I’ve known about for years and found a few of his videos on his website and Facebook feeds with some great original tunes! We have some great local writers here in K-town! I love finding great local new music that are from right here in the Okanagan. Check out this cool live tune of Jeffs that I found through another local musicians live Facebook feed, Michael Se Elliott. This tune is called “How could you do me like that” by Jeff Piattelli. Great job Jeff! As soon as it started, I was hooked on it!

Also check out Jeffs latest tune called Burn It Up on his YouTube Channel here. Great, catchy tune – https://youtu.be/22sL3CU7hWs

The Rock Doctor Music Reviews

Music reviews each week are written by our long time music review guru and friend, John the Rock Doctor Kereiff! Check out all his reviews right here.

This weeks music review feature and dedication is a very special one featuring Matthew Good. We chose to feature  because of the loss of our great friend, local musician and Matthew Good bassist, Rich Priske (Rich Rock) who passed away this summer, far too young. It’s hard to believe that he was here one moment and then gone the next. Hold the people you care about and let them know you care as often as possible. Tomorrow is not a guarantee. Rest In Peace brother. You can check out the music reviews features here.

Talking about dedications to musicians, friends and loved ones that we’ve lost, I personally wanted to send out a heartfelt condolence to all the family and friends of Grahame Hamer Mitchell. Another great family man, friend to many and fellow musician from here in the Okanagan. I didnt see you a lot over the years brother but you were always in my thoughts. An incredibly good human who will be missed dearly. RIP Hamer! Check out Charlie Hodges article and fond memories of Grahame here – https://gonzookanagan.com/hodge-podge-by-charlie-hodge-hamer/
