What’s Up? The Local Music Scene Episode #8 Featuring Sinister Kin

Want to submit your upcoming events or music? We would love to hear it! Please send to whatsup@gonzookanagan.com.

As a fulltime musician for the past 35 years myself (yikes, that’s a long time!), I’ve come to appreciate the fact that I am able to perform and sing for people and in return, enjoy it as much as I do. There is something to be said for that exchange of energy and good vibes that live music brings to all, from the stage to the seats, there is nothing like it and I so look forward to feeling that again when we are out of this crazy mess we are in. Music is needed desperately in everyone’s lives.

The goal here from these episodes on Gonzo Okanagan & K96.3 Kelowna’s Classic Rock is to reach out and bring some awareness and light into the local Central Okanagan Music Scene by featuring their new music, events and in general, some light into the changes we’ve all had to adjust to in 2020. We all feel the strain in every aspect of these changes and are going to try to do our best to fill our cups up with some fantastic local music while many so of us hang on through this bumpy ride we are on. ?

Making an effort to change our own thoughts and habits, can strike a chord mentally and change us along with our communities lives. Be safe and…let’s ROCK N ROLL!

Former Kelowna resident and Gonzo Okanagan team member Teena Clipston recently teamed up with 80’s rocker Angelo Fodero of the Killer Dwarfs to work on one of her original songs for Fodero’s new music project, Sinister Kin.

The song, Dark Cravings, was written about the seduction of addiction and life on the streets, to bring awareness of the emotional pain that those suffer through addiction and homelessness in British Columbia.

Dark Cravings, as well as five other songs on Sinister Kin’s self-titled EP are now available on iTunes, Spotify, Bandcamp, and can also be found on Youtube.

When asked about why she wrote this song, Teena explains, “sometimes music can be the only outlet for the pain and suffering that we witness or experience. With lyrics, we try to make sense of things, instead of feeling helpless, it’s an opportunity to make a statement.

Sinister Kin is Angelo Fodero and Bryce Trewin, also from the Killer Dwarfs. If you are a fan of 80’s rock and the original Killer Dwarfs album (Attic records 1983), you will enjoy Sinister Kin’s straight up hard driving rock sound.

Fifty-percent of all proceeds from the sale of the Ep go directly to supporting children’s charity. Each quarter the band will choose a different charity to donate to.

Teena Clipston now lives on Vancouver Island and has started a new environmental magazine called Saving Earth.
