The OSO is pleased to welcome back to our stage the rising singing stars of Canadian opera from Nancy Hermiston’s acclaimed UBC Opera Ensemble. Audiences will be treated to wonderful selections from Franz Lehar’s The Merry Widow including the sensuous ‘Vilia’, the playful ‘I’m off to Chez Maxim’ and the romantic ‘Waltz-Duet’. Also on the program are the greatest hits from the antics of Johann Strauss Jr.’ s brilliant operetta Die Fledermaus, such as the dramatic “Czardas”, the cheeky “Mein Herr Marquis” and the playful “Champagne Polka”. “We are very excited to share the stage once again with singers from the renowned Opera Ensemble from UBC” says OSO Music Director, Rosemary Thomson. “They always bring the music to life and our audiences to their feet.”
Rounding out the program will be some of the world’s best loved waltzes such as The Beautiful Blue Danube and The Gold and Silver Waltz. We are thrilled to welcome Heather Stranks and Jens Goerner from City Dance Studio to bring these waltzes to life. Audience members are invited to wear their favourite ball gowns and be swept away by the beauty of this wonderful musical tradition.
See it, Hear it, Love it!
