JUNO and 9X CCMA Award-Winning Band, The Washboard Union to Release New Album WESTERLY on July 12th

New Single “Band On Her T-Shirt” Out May 24th

Like a wild wind from the west, the next chapter for JUNO and 9x CCMA award-winning band The Washboard Union arrives in WESTERLY, a 10-song album to be released July 12, 2024. The collection of songs, distributed via Universal Music Canada, features the band’s hit singles “I Run On Country and “Gather Round” and will be available on all streaming platforms. Fans can pre-save WESTERLY here.

The band is also releasing their new radio single “Band On Her T-Shirt,” on May 24th and fans can pre-add the single and get the full WESTERLY album first when it drops on July 12th.

“Band On Her T-Shirt” is a carefree summertime country anthem, with production that showcases the band’s evolution on this diverse new record. It will also be the first song from the band’s extensive catalog to be taken to Australian country radio.

“We loved this song from the second we heard it” said Chris Duncombe of The Washboard Union. ““Band On Her T-Shirt” captures that feeling we all have for the bands and music we love.”

WESTERLY was produced by The Washboard Union, Matt McClure (Lee Brice) and Dave “Dwave” Thomson (Lady A, High Valley). The album is a call home to the wild landscapes of the west that have fueled and inspired the band from their beginnings. Sonically, WESTERLY is anthemic, blending gritty country and soaring choruses, underpinned by The Washboard Union’s signature three-part harmonies that have won them fans the world over.

The band penned many of the songs for this project tucked away in their studio just west of the Monashee mountains in British Columbia, and the rocky peaks and fir laden mountain sides are behind every note they wrote and recorded. The tracks on the album exemplify The Washboard Union’s unabashed love affair with country music and their home province of BC.

“WESTERLY, like the wind, took us in new directions as a band, incorporating more and different stories and sounds to our music than ever before,” said David Roberts of The Washboard Union. “This album is special to us because it’s truly a representation of where we’re from, what inspires us, and it’s also the first project where we’ve co-produced every track. We’re delighted that our fans are loving all the new songs we have released from this collection.”

Lyrically, WESTERLY is authentic, honest, and inspired by what is truly important in life. The album’s lead single “I Run On Country” is both an anthem and a love song penned to the music the band grew up on. It has an undeniable catchy chorus and was a hit on the Canadian country radio charts. Written by The Washboard Union and Jeff Johnston,Gather Round is a dynamic track that celebrates what truly matters in life – those moments you relish with friends every time you’re together. Collectively, the two songs have over 4 million streams.

WESTERLY is the fourth studio album for The Washboard Union and follows their CCMA Award-winning album Everbound (2020), which saw two certified gold singles in ”Dock Rock” and “Country Thunder”.

The Washboard Union, composed of step-brothers Aaron Grain, Chris Duncombe and their best friend David Roberts, have carved their place as one of Canada’s top country bands. Their career has spawned over 85 million career streams, 35+ award wins, and 380,000 radio spins, with two top 5 hits and nine top 10 hits. In addition to this, the band has one Platinum and four Gold-certified singles, and Everbound (2020) won them CCMA Awards for Group of the Year and Roots Album of the Year. They are three-time consecutive CCMA Group of the Year winners, and remain the only country group to ever win a JUNO Award for Breakthrough Group of the Year.

In 2023 The Washboard Union brought their dynamic and engaging live show to stages across North American, including Country Thunder Florida, Country Thunder Wisconsin and YQM Fest, and shared stages with headliners like Cody Johnson, Hardy, Thomas Rhett, and many more. 2024 will see the band kick off their live-show at CMA fest in Nashville on June 6th and continue on the road for their busiest summer and fall to date with performances across Canada from coast to coast.
