Haywire Winery reveals “Certified Local” exclusive for Okanagan wine lovers

Thanks to the doting support of the region’s residents over the decades, the Okanagan wine industry has grown to global acclaim. Haywire Winery has created its Certified Local program as a token of gratitude to residents with an Okanagan mailing address.

Our team,” she continues, “is committed to making wine touring enjoyable and relaxing, removing any pretentiousness from the equation. Visit Haywire Tasting Lounge and introduce yourselves to our amazing service ambassadors and rediscover local wines.”

About Haywire Winery
At Gonzo Okanagan, we’ve covered the evolution of Haywire Winery since it began as a virtual wine brand at Switchback Organic Vineyard in 2009. Today, Haywire is known in Canada and Europe for its cool-climate wines, emphasizing “less is more” winemaking. Chief winemaker Matt Dumayne’s signature style features the use of state-of-the-art concrete vessels, natural yeast, and a gentle touch, resulting in vibrant, textured wines.

The winery, with a fresh label and a year-round tasting lounge, offers visitors in Summerland a chance to enjoy personalized service with scenic lake and vineyard views while savouring Haywire wines.

Take, for example, 2021 Pinot Gris from Haywire’s Switchback Vineyard by winemakers Matt and Kat D’Costa: Find spring-like freshness full of citrus and tree fruit notes such as pear and nectarine ready to drink without decanting. It was whole cluster pressed and fermented naturally then aged in concrete tanks. The 11 months on lees with constant stirring resulted in a complex wine with fine structure and texture. Drink now with roast poultry, especially duck a l’orange, pasta or salmon dishes, or cellar carefully for future reward.

It’s Time for a Visit
I’ve got my Certified Local card in hand and I’m ready to explore what’s new in the stunning tasting lounge at Haywire. Who knows maybe I’ll still be able to snag a bottle of Haywire Lunar Red, released to mark the beginning of the Year of the Dragon. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine continues a tradition that began with the winery’s first Lunar New Year wine in 2014. Who is joining me?
