Free Admission on Family Day

Families of all ages and shapes and sizes are invited to make this Family Day a creative one with a visit to the Kelowna Art Gallery. Admission will be free for all visitors during the day-long event that takes place on Monday, February 19, 2024, from 10 am to 4 pm.

“We have some fun and fabulous exhibitions right now that are perfect for introducing children to the wonders of art,” says Sumi Ali, Education Coordinator at the Gallery. “We also know that children will want to be active, so we have planned a variety of art activities that will give families the opportunity to express their creativity together and to connect through art.”

Family Day marks the very final day to see Wolves: The Art of Dempsey Bob. This incredible exhibition features a collection of Tahltan-Tlingit master carver Dempsey Bob’s finest masks, sculptures, and wood carvings created over a lifetime of his artistic practice. Children can also have fun trying to find the Gopher in a Can in The General Store — an art installation which looks just like a real souvenir store (but isn’t). Then, the whole family can lie back and relax as they view the satellites in the skies above them in All the Stars We Cannot See.

Visitors can each create their own silly self-portrait and then string them together with the rest of their family’s portraits to form a unique Family Banner. Space is limited for this activity, so registration is required. The Art Lab creative making space will also be open for visitors to drop in and create artwork together using the supplies provided. The Art Lab does not require pre-registration and is self-guided. All materials and instructions will be provided.

The Gallery would like to acknowledge the Province of British Columbia for their financial support and for helping to make this BC Family Day event free for everyone.

The Kelowna Art Gallery is located at 1315 Water Street in downtown Kelowna. For more information, visit www.kelownaartgallery.com or call 250-762-2226.
