Ben Klick Releases New Single – “Mama’s Cookin’”
BCCMA and international award winning recording artist, Ben Klick, releases a brand new single, “Mama’s Cookin’”, on October 6, 2023. This is the second single release in 2023 for Klick, but also marks the first of many over the next year. Known as “The Guitar Pickin’ Country Gentleman”, Klick fuses modern country sounds with a traditional twist.
“Mama’s Cookin’ is a country blues, upbeat, fun song written all about the things my mum made for me over the years growing up. When the time came for me to make the move to Nashville, TN to further pursue my music career as an artist and guitar player my mum sent me down with a recipe book of all the things I loved.” states Klick. Klick also mentioned he used to write cards on his mum’s birthday, Mothers’ Day, Christmas, and other special occasions that always ended with the line “I love your cooking”.
The song, co-written by Nashville songwriter, Rhett McDaniel, not only gives an insight into Klick’s love of food, but you can hear some early country music influences throughout the track. This includes the first line, “Let’s Go Guys”, illuding to Klick’s early Shania Twain influence of “Let’s Go Girls” in the hit, “Man, I Feel Like a Woman”, alongside guitar inspiration, Brad Paisley, with a guitar driven signature lick and a fast chicken-pickin’ solo.
Through the help of Creative BC, an arts funding organization in British Columbia, Klick teamed up with award-winning producer and musician, Tom McKillip, and his band of A-List musicians at Studio Downe Under in Abbotsford, BC to record the track. Klick proceeded to self-produce the song from his home studio in West Kelowna while putting all the final touches on the track during a week trip out to Hamilton, ON for the Canadian Country Music Awards and Calgary, AB for a run of corporate shows as a hired guitar player.
In the coming months, Klick is playing a few shows where he’ll be showcasing brand new music, including “Mama’s Cookin’”. He’s also heading into the next few months with a few nominations at the 2024 BC Country Music Awards happening on Sunday, November 5 in the lower mainland.
