DKA Raises $4,000 for Food Bank
$4,000 raised for the Central Okanagan Food Bank through sales of hot chocolate at DKA Winter Street Market
The Downtown Kelowna Association (DKA) is pleased to announce the success of our first Central Okanagan Food Bank (COFB) Hot Chocolate Fundraiser, held at this year’s Winter Street Market & Light Up. On Saturday, December 3 beginning at 11am, the Food Bank offered hot chocolate for a minimum donation of $5. Specially branded Winter Street Market mugs were also available for a minimum donation of $10.
The fundraiser netted a total of $4,000 for the Food Bank, helping to nourish the community this Holiday Season. Food Bank representatives were on hand for the cheque presentation, made by DKA Board President, Brian Stephenson, and DKA Executive Director, Mark Burley.
For every $1 donated, the COFB can provide up to $3 worth of food for clients through their buying power with local grocery retailers. According to the Food Bank, there has been a 30% increase in the number of people needing to access their services. This amounts to over 5,500 individuals being served every month, 34% of which are children and youth under the age of 15, and another 22% are seniors who are living on a fixed income.
We sincerely thank all who attended our event and assisted us in our goal to support clients of the Food Bank. Â The DKA looks forward to continuing this tradition at Winter Street Market as part of our commitment to supporting the community.
