Experience the roads, lakes and grapes of Kelowna
The 8th annual Kelowna Wine Country Half Marathon takes place in Kelowna Sept. 4 and 5, 2021. With less than 150 spots remaining, people are encouraged to register before it sells out!
Runners have the option of running a half marathon (21.1 km), 10km or 5km run distance, enjoying the spectacular natural beauty of the Okanagan Valley.
For more information and to register, go to Kelowna Wine Country Runs.
The Course
The half marathon kicks off at 7:00 a.m. at The Vibrant Vine Winery, which offers breathtaking views of Okanagan Lake, the surrounding mountains, and downtown Kelowna.
The course meanders past vineyards, farms and apple orchards, along the East Bench of Kelowna before merging onto the Mission Creek Greenway which is also the 10km runners start. Gyro Beach is the starting line for those running the 5km distance is also the final five kilometres of the course which runs along the edge of Okanagan Lake, culminating with a grand finish at Waterfront Park.
Runners will run in smaller heats to allow for physical distancing, the opportunity to sanitize areas between runners, and help stop the spread of communicable disease.
The Swag
All runners receive a finisher’s medal, a moisture-wicking shirt and a souvenir wine glass to take with them.
Traditionally, the run closes with a post-run festival, in an effort to reduce the spread of communicable disease runners will instead receive a passport that lists more than 20 wineries to visit who are offering runners discounts and complimentary tastings for the weekend.
“Our entire team is excited to welcome our 1000 attendees taking part in running in person over the two days. This runs series welcomes runners who want to cross completing a run off of their bucket list to those who are using it as part of their training for longer distances, it really is open to everyone.”
