RESOLUTIONS FOR MIND, BODY, & SPIRIT
by Tiffany Brawn
New Year’s is a time of re-scripting our lives and what we really want to be, do and experience. Every time you say NO to temptation, you earn Honour points. Honouring your mind, body & Spirit builds self-esteem and self-confidence. Self-confidence leads to Self-awareness and higher levels of discernment. The practice of Honourable Discernment is what helps us make empowering choices for our lives and leads us ever closer to our highest potential.
Feeling kinda foggy in the head and generally exhausted these days? Getting back on track after the endless parade of temptation, over the holiday season, can be challenging, however, it’s a worthy journey to take. Urinary tract infections and yeast infections are common place after seasonal celebrations. Candida, the yeast that lives naturally inside the body, and in specific balance to beneficial bacteria, LOVES sugar.
Foods with added sugar, alcohol and refined grains all metabolize into glucose which is the preferred fuel for Candida yeast, pathogenic bacteria and parasites. Sugar is the most destructive “food” for the immune system and make us susceptible to colds and the flu. That brain fog, stuffed up nose and lethargy, that plagues us at this time of year, has a direct connection to Candida overgrowth.

The good news is that there are lots of products to help you overcome these impulse issues and starve off excess Candida. You may think that jumping into a cleanse kit is the way to go, however this is NOT detox season as the thyroid (the internal thermostat of the body) is working hard to keep us warm.
Cleansing is best undertaken in the Spring as it is taxing on the body, uses up immune resources and requires specific preparation. Winter, instead, is the season to bolster your immune system and clean up your diet. Instead of a detox kit try the following:
- A supplemental blend of medicinal mushrooms (Host Defense makes awesome mushroom medicines), either in powder form or capsule to build a stronger immune system
- Bitter herb tonics are one of the most effective tools to cut through those sugar cravings
- Sour fermented foods, like cultured veggies, pickles, kimchi and sauerkraut can replace sweets and improve gut health
- Tincture combos with herbs like Astragalus, Schisandra berry, Eleuthero, and Licorice (St. Francis Deep Immune) are great for preventing colds the flu
- Whole-food probiotics, made using ancient fermentation philosophies (like Living Alchemy Flora Series) will create the right environment for the good bacteria in your gut to thrive
- Nopal Cactus, in powder or capsule, can help to balance blood sugar and for weight loss. It was traditionally used in Mexican medicine for treating type-2 Diabetes.
- Gymnema Sylvestre, is a herb from India that has been used for millennia in Ayurvedic medicine. The tea helps to combat sugar cravings, actually making sweets distasteful and balance blood sugar.
- Green & Red superfood powders (MacroLife Miracle Greens & Miracle Reds) can correct nutritional deficiencies, in the winter months, and add much needed antioxidants for better energy, immunity and mental clarity.
It is not possible to have positive change with a negative outlook or attitude. Focusing on what you don’t want, like excess weight, an addiction, or a dysfunctional relationship, sends you down the path of failure. The Law of Attraction shows us that by focusing on good choices and attitudes we can transform our health and improve our lives.
Keep it simple! You can change your metabolism drastically in just one year, by just making a habit of consuming three servings of fruits and three servings of veggies, as well as your regular choices, per day. Add four walks a week to that and you will hardly recognize yourself in the mirror next winter!
In Western cultures, there is a pervasive belief that we are meant to decline year after year. Weight gain, arthritis, gout, heart disease, Type 2 Diabetes, dementia and, unfortunately, cancer, have become the norm. These are not inevitabilities, rather, they are symptoms of dishonor and denial. We are taught to suppress ourselves, to fit into the Status Quo, and drown out our emotions. We are encouraged to digest shiny marketing and flash-in-the-pan diet fads, rather than follow that intuitive guidance within. It’s that voice that can lead to healing empowerment and salvation.
This New Year’s Eve, ask yourself, “what am I really going to do differently in 2018?” It’s not about projecting some intangible goal like losing 40 lbs. It starts today with what you choose to put into your mouth, who you spend your time with, and what you practice on a consistent basis. The awesome news is that it’s never too late to be great! There is always help close by if you have the courage to ask for it, and to honour the advice. Perhaps this year is when you will discover and unlock the person that you have the potential to be? It’s all in your hands!
