Downtown Kelowna Association Combines Small Shop Weekend with Show N Shine Event
The Downtown Kelowna Association (DKA) is preparing for a busy weekend ahead with the combination of a ‘shop local’ promotion and the return of a car show. Small Shop Weekend will run Friday, September 22 through Sunday, September 24, and will book-end the rescheduled Show N Shine on Bernard on Saturday, September 23, 2023. The combination of Small Shop with Show N Shine positions Downtown Kelowna to welcome several thousand over a three-day period.
Small Shop Weekend (Sept 22-24) focuses on the importance of shopping local and how doing so has a substantial impact on the livelihoods of Kelowna residents. Participating Downtown Kelowna businesses will feature special incentives, in-store promotions, or sidewalk sales. Visitors to Downtown Kelowna for Small Shop can play the Small Shop Hero Contest for a chance to win one of several prize packages. Full promotional and contest details, including participating locations, can be found on the Downtown Kelowna website.
“Buy local — or BYE BYE, LOCAL is a cute slogan, but it’s also absolutely true,” according to DKA Executive Director, Mark Burley. “Local businesses need our support; we hope the community will consider where their hard-earned dollars are being spent and think about the contributions that locally owned businesses have on our economy.” Burley continues, “This is a weekend promotion, but in Downtown Kelowna we celebrate Small Shop 24/7, 365 days a year.”
PARKING: On Saturday, September 23 the first two hours of on-street parking are free; time limits and other restrictions apply. Parking is FREE in all three City-owned Downtown Kelowna parkades (Chapman, Memorial, Library) every weekend.
A major part of this weekend’s events is the DKA Show N Shine, presented by Indigo Park Canada, to be held on Saturday, September 23. From 11am-4pm, classic cars, hot rods, rat rods, muscle cars, genuine collectibles and more will be available for viewing along Bernard Ave. from The Sails to St. Paul. Prizes will be awarded for Best Import, Best Domestic, and Best Overall, which will be adjudicated by a panel of judges. A People’s Choice Award will be voted on by the public.
Show N Shine on Bernard is a free, family-friendly event for auto enthusiasts of all ages; complete event information is available here. The event is presented by Indigo Park Canada, and is supported by Mirror Image Customs, Lorval Developments, Fortis BC, New Country 100.7 and Kelowna’s Classic Rock K96.3 and select Downtown Kelowna businesses.
