Penticton & District Community Arts Council Grants 2019

Each year the Penticton & District Community Arts Council supports local arts and cultural groups through our Community Arts Council Grant program. The funds from this program are granted to the PDCAC from the BC Arts Council each year to distribute in our community. The applicants must be non-profits and members of the PDCAC. On May 27th the PDCAC granted out at total of $5,900 to the following groups:
BC Registered Music Teachers Associations
The funds will be used to support several music events over the coming months. June’s Pre-exam recital, November’s Canada Music Week recital and scholarship presentation, October’s Performance Anxiety workshop, and November’s Bergman Piano Duo Masterclass.
Children’s Showcase
The funds will support Children’s Showcase to host Indigo Circus, a troupe of circus and physical comedy artists. They show is visually stunning and appeals to all ages. They engage the audience and have on stage participation. There are 6-12 performers and the expected audience will be approximately 300.
Get Bent Active Arts Society
The funds will support Get Bent’s Dance-Abilities Project which highlights youth dancers and community members with varying physical disabilities. The project includes eight weeks of creative collaboration that has a profound impact on everyone involved. This year they are extending their vision with SD 53 & 67’s Special Education programs.
Okanagan School of the Arts
The funds will support OSA’s creation of eight artist studios and five artisan/maker studios. Each space will be equipped with appropriate furnishings for the artists’ needs. Funds will be used for improvements to lighting, power supply, and dividers.
Penticton Academy of Music & Dramatic Arts Society
The funds will support PAMDA’s summer programs – Kids on Broadway and Kids Signwriting camps. The camps focus on a positive musical experience, working with others, self-expression, and fostering inner creativity.
Penticton Concert Band
The funds will support the Penticton Concert Band in purchasing new music stands and folders for their ever growing group. They currently have 40+ members and the PCB is affiliated with local school music programs. They perform several times per year.
Penticton Potter’s Guild
The funds will be put towards a replacement glaze kiln. The Penticton Potter’s Guild is known for their excellence in craftspersonship and community support. The new glaze kiln will assist them towards further individual artistic excellence and the ability to provide donation items for community fundraising.
