HodgePodge: Cabs and Halloween
Hodge Podge By Charlie Hodge
Tez and I believe we are in for an interesting set of characters at our front door this Halloween Night – based largely on this summer’s dynamics.
For the previous 15 years it seemed we were getting ‘too old’ as a place for youngsters to ‘hit up’ for candies as and treats, based by a lack of children. Parents and children simply stopped showing up. So we stopped putting out pumpkins. One thing stopped another and the circle stopped.
However, during late spring and summer a number of young homeowners recently arrived, combined with some home assemblies and developers. Suddenly the sidewalks and streets had children on them.
This past two weeks a plethora of cabs have been flooding my neighbourhood and a substantial increase in taxis tell that life exits with either students or workers. Naturally, this means a trip to the store for a couple of key ingredients: pumpkins, chocolates, and candles. If there is one thing I do well it’s chocolate.
Tez will handle the pumpkin carving as she is far more skilled than I am with sharp things and far more artistic. (She will not let me run with them).
I am not sure if I will dress up to meet greeters this year. Tez might, depending on night.
For several years I would shock greeters at my door dressing up as bizarre characters they would not expecting when they came for goodies.
It’s been quiet at the Hodge Hooooooose in the past few years. But not this year.
Now then, where is the candy dish?
