Fireworks to light up the sky across Okanagan on Canada Day
By Monique Tamminga
It’s Canada’s birthday and the Okanagan plans to celebrate.
Fireworks are planned at Kelowna’s waterfront, Penticton Lakeside Resort and on Osoyoos Lake on Monday, July 1.
Here are some ways to watch those pyrotechnics in the sky.
KELOWNA
Enjoy the show from the water. Luxury Lake Tours.com is offering public and private charters out of Peachland and West Kelowna.
There has to be a minimum of six people to sail with private charter at $600 for up to 10 people or $60 per person for public. Return time is approximately 11 p.m.
If you want to book call 250-859-4187.
Tens of thousands come to downtown Kelowna to take in Canada Day celebrations that kick off at 10 a.m. on July 1 in Waterfront Park, Jim Stuart and Kerry Park as well as Prospera Place. Fireworks light up the sky at 10 p.m. and can be viewed from most parts of the waterfront.
PENTICTON
For over a decade the Penticton Lakeside Resort has been putting on a firework show above Okanagan Lake with each year getting bigger.
This year, they will be setting off the fireworks from a barge allowing for even more people to view the show from far and wide at 10 p.m. One of the best spots is of course on the patio of Barking Parrot or Hooded Merganser or on the balcony of your room at the Lakeside Resort.
There are also a few Penticton wineries offering viewing parties as well.
There is free transit all day long with events, activities and live music in Gyro Park to celebrate Canada Day.
OSOYOOS
Osoyoos has always been known for the one of the biggest and longest fireworks shows in B.C. But this year’s was in jeopardy with the volunteer group who normally puts it on running into red tape from the municipality. Now along with the Cherry Fiesta Festival they are hosting the fireworks above Osoyoos Lake.
During the day, come out and enjoy the parade and festive events of the 74th annual Cherry Fiesta.
