Community Matching Campaign in support of Opera Kelowna
Opera Kelowna is excited to launch its new Matching Campaign with a goal of raising $25 000 between now and November 25.
As part of their celebration of opera in the Okanagan, Opera Kelowna is launching a campaign to raise the funds that will ensure they can offer another season of opera throughout the Valley next year. This past summer, Opera Kelowna reached over 3000 people through their production of Béatrice et Bénédict, Opera Under the Stars and Parks Alive! concerts, Sidewalk Serenades, and their Singing the ’97 recitals in Lake Country, Kelowna, Penticton, Naramata and Oliver. They were proud to launch their revised training program and host ten young artists in their Valley Opera Summer Intensive, and to welcome an emerging conductor in residence as part of a national program for Women Conductors. In all their programs, they strive to create local work and opportunities, and are proud to have contributed to the employment of more than 40 BC artists and arts workers throughout their programs this year. As they plan for the future, they’re asking for community members’ help. Their goal is to raise $25,000 from today through November 25th. A group of supporters have already committed to matching up to $12,500 in donations, ensuring that every dollar of your support is doubled for the next month. Artistic Director Rosemary Thomson says, “ Just as it takes a village to raise and nurture a child, it takes a community to raise and nurture an opera company. At only 10 years old, Opera Kelowna is a young and growing company in the cultural landscape of the Okanagan valley. As we continue to rebuild this year, please donate to our community matching campaign and help us to bring opera everywhere.” Managing Director Brianna Wells says, “Donations made through this campaign are crucial for Opera Kelowna’s next season. While we are extremely proud to have returned to most of our regular programming in 2022, we are still seeing significant impacts from COVID on audience numbers. While we plan carefully for a safe season in 2023 we are also hoping that community members who have enjoyed any of our programs this year will contribute to our future, at a scale that works for them. Every dollar helps!” Tax-receiptable donations can be made online via Canada Helps or by cheque mailed to:
