Anna Alessandra, with locals Bex Troock and Michael Averill, at Red Bird Brewing
Houston Texas’ singer/songwriter Anna Alessandra plays The Three Little Birds Songwriters Showcase on Tuesday, March 21, alongside Bex Troock (Josh + Bex, Layer Cake Mountain) and wandering minstrel Michael Averill.
Red Bird Brewing, 7:00 p.m.
The world is literally her stage: having spent her life living in the US, Europe, the UK and beyond, Anna Alessandra showcases the versatility of Americana music by blending roots and Celtic storytelling with a moody southern gothic palate. Anna has played in residencies, solo sets, songwriter showcases and festivals in New Orleans, North Carolina, New York, British Columbia, and has plans to get on stages in more of the world soon.
Anna is currently touring the BC area, and will be doing a couple of weeks of events in the Interior, Vancouver, Quadra and Savary Islands in the upcoming month. All show listings can be found on Bands In Town. Red Bird Brewing has become *the place* to perform in Kelowna over the last couple years, with excellent production and sound and a dedicated group of patrons. Songwriters-in-the-round is hosted by Dan Tait every Tuesday until the end of May. Michael Averill will be stepping in for him on the 21st.
This is Anna’s first tour and she came directly to BC to share her music with an area and people she loves. She is just finishing two weeks on Savary Island, where she completed a number of brand new songs that will be showcased at the events. Anna will continue onwards to Lillooet, Kamloops and Sicamous for shows the rest of the week. Shows are listed on her Bands in Town.
Artist Bio:
Anna Alessandra is a well-traveled storyteller that has been writing songs since she first creased the pages of her journals as a child. When she wasn’t falling asleep in the back of the jazz clubs her mother sang at, she was learning to sing traditional American and Celtic tunes on many a road trip with her family. After booking bands for venues in North Carolina, she chose to instead grace the stage herself and has continued to do so ever since.
Having spent her formative years in Europe and the UK, and then her stage years in New Orleans and North Carolina, her sound is inherently a blend of Roots and Celtic storytelling entwined with a Southern Gothic palate. Her influences and sound are derived from a rich mix of artists ranging from Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits to Gregory Alan Isakov, Loreena McKennitt, Sigur Ros, Ray Charles and Joni Mitchell.
Not only does Anna have something to say, but she tackles a wide range of styles and songs in order to say it. She isn’t afraid to restyle a cover, and her writing is just as versatile as her background. Her captivating voice has the ability to sing a tender soprano ballad as easily as a rich soulful anthem or a country dance tune. In essence, her music and her voice are a dynamic duo that showcase the versatility of Americana music at its core.
