Local Author Invites You to the Writers’ Bootcamp in Amorgos, Greece!

Local author, writing instructor and coach, Darcy Nybo is headed to Amorgos, Greece in late October to host a Writers’ Boot Camp. She created the six-day retreat as a space for writers to unplug from the ordinary and plug into inspiration.

“This boot camp is the perfect place to surround yourself with nature, including stunning beaches right next to the accommodations,” says Nybo. “With eleven hours of sunshine, an average temp of 20C and an average sea temperature of 21C it’s a great place to relax, learn and write.”

The Writers’ Boot Camp includes all accommodation, food and six days of the retreat for around $1300.

Nybo was asked by former Kelowna author, Jonas Saul, to create the boot camp and hold it on the island of Amorgos, where he and his wife hold several retreats. “I met Jonas when I hosted a writers’ group in West Kelowna in the early 2000s. He came every month, did every assignment and shared some fantastic writing. We’ve kept in touch over the years and I’m happy to call him my friend. Now, he’s a world-famous author, and I get to go to Greece and help other aspiring authors get their creations fleshed out and hopefully published.”

Saul will also be offering up some great pearls of wisdom when it comes to writing, publishing and promoting as an author His wife Rania Stone, also an author, will be on hand as well.

“It’s the perfect way to say goodbye to summer, and hello to fall,” says Nybo. “Many of the participants are arriving early so they can enjoy the sights, sounds and tastes of Athens. Then, after the retreat, they’re visiting other Greek islands. For me, it’s the perfect combination of travel, learning and encouragement. Interestingly enough, several people are coming to this from the Okanagan and Vancouver Island. Not to worry, there’s still room for a few more, as long as you book it soon.”

Nybo is also teaching creative writing online through the University of Victoria. Tell Your Story, a memoir writing course starts September 21 and runs through to November 2, every Saturday morning. If you can’t make it to Greece, Darcy is teaching a revised version of the boot camp online every Thursday morning from September 19 to Nov 7.
