Rock Doctor Music Reviews – YOU AIN’T MY DOG NO MORE Eliza Neals

YOU AIN’T MY DOG NO MORE Eliza Neals (E-H Records, CD single) Never heard of Eliza before, but her greasy, nasty version of this classic is a slice of pure blues heaven.   This thing has a sleazy grind that I just love, Eliza’s husky voice is perfect- Big Mama Thornton, Bessie Smith and Koko Taylor rolled into one, and Howard Glazer’s slide playing reminds me of Johnny Winter at his best.  This might very well be the blues’ best kiss-off song ever, and Eliza does it justice.   The CD single has a 2:44 radio edit as well as a full length version at 4:24, so take your pick- but I’ll have the full length version any time.  I can only hope there’s a full on album on the way!
