Kelowna Firefighters Dare to Dream Rooftop Campout
The Kelowna Firefighters are taking to the Kelowna Yacht Club roof this weekend and it’s all for a great cause. The Kelowna Professional Firefighters Charitable Association is raising funds for their Dare to Dream Charity. “It’s an exciting time as we are launching a new charitable initiative called ‘Dare to Dream’. It will help families right here in Kelowna, who need it the most”, says Kelowna Professional Firefighters’ Steven Meyer. The rooftop campout will be taking place from Friday, August 16th to Sunday, August 18th. The weekend will have fun, family-oriented activities available by donation to assist in raising funds to help families in our community.
Friday at 4:00 pm, the firefighters will take to the Kelowna Yacht Club roof to begin their weekend long vigil. Saturday will see a full day of activity beginning at 8:30 AM with a Diamond Fitness Boot Camp, followed by the Kids Firefighter Challenge which will run from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM at Stuart Park. “It will be a fun day. We are looking forward to having families come down and join us where kids can race their siblings, friends, parents or even a Kelowna firefighter through the Kids Firefighter Challenge”, says Meyer. Sunday, the weekend campout will wrap up at 6:00 PM with the firefighters making their way off the rooftop. Donations will be collected throughout the weekend by the raising and lowering of a boot from the roof. Members of the Kelowna Professional Firefighters Charitable Association will be on-site over the course of the weekend to provide further information and accept charitable donations.
The Kids Firefighter Challenge is proudly sponsored by Turner Volkswagen. Turner Volkswagen will also be donating a portion of all car sales in the month of August to the Dare to Dream charity.
“We are honoured to partner with the Kelowna Professional Firefighters for this great initiative again this year. Giving back to our community is at the heart of the Kelowna Yacht Clubs core values, says Thom Killingsworth, Kelowna Yacht Club Executive Director.
The Kelowna Professional Firefighters Charitable Association is accepting applications for those in need. “Donations from this weekend will go directly back into the community, by helping families and those who have been hit with hard times and are unable to receive all the assistance that they need”, says Meyer. The public is encouraged to nominate someone or families can fill out the online application themselves at www.kelownafirefighters.com/rooftop-campout/.
